Are you planning to restore your roof any time soon? Well, roof repairing is an integral part of house maintenance and you need to take care really well. However, there are quite a few considerations involved with roof restoration. The most important point of consideration is the type of roofing material that you will use. While choosing the roofing materials you will definitely need to take into account the insulating property but do not turn a blind eye to the environmental properties. You should always try to opt for eco-friendly roofing options. Eco-friendly roof restorations are extremely popular now.

One of the most eco-friendly roofing materials is wood. Wood shingles were earlier made from old growth trees but nowadays several roofing companies offer wood shingles that are harvested from sustainable cedar forest and are certified. Cedar is far better in terms of insulating effects compared to asphalt and is insect resistant. However wood is prone to fire and decay and therefore cost of maintaining a wood roof is high. Metal roofs have great insulating value. They are durable and can reflect light. They are great for insulation in the winters and reflecting heat in the summers. Most metal roofs come in recycled materials.

Slate is also a great eco-friendly roofing option. It is recyclable and extremely durable. Try to use reclaimed or salvaged slate roofing. However remember that slate roofing can prove quite expensive. Clay tiles are also good options for roofing. They have insulating properties and can last for as many as 50 years. And clay roofs are A- fire rated. As the clay tiles usually come in light colors, they can reflect as much as 50% if the sun’s energy. You can also go in for green roofs that are sod-like and are covered with soil and live vegetation.

Overall it’s not a big deal to go green when you are looking for a roofing solution for your house. The important point to understand it’s that going green doesn’t mean to spend more money or to go out of budget. Many times you will find that if you decide to go for eco solutions your roof in fact can last longer and be more affordable in the long term.

Just because the first investment it’s higher it doesn’t mean the decision of going green with your roof will not be a more economical and wise decision in the long run.
