Centre asks States to ensure smooth harvesting, sowing operations

The Union federal government on Friday requested states and union territories to make certain clean harvesting and sowing functions, expressing agricultural functions have been exempted from the 21-day lockdown enforced to overcome coronavirus.

In a communication to all States and UTs, Union Household Secretary Ajay Bhalla, stated the farming functions by farmers, farmworkers and procurement of agricultural productions are exempted from the nationwide lockdown.

Bhalla stated the Household Ministry had permitted agricultural functions, retaining in perspective the harvesting and sowing season.

He stated even though exceptions have been permitted for farming functions by farmers and farmworkers, procurement of agricultural productions, operation of mandis, movement of harvesting and sowing associated machinery and many others.., etcetera. Nevertheless, as per information been given, these exceptions have not percolated down at the discipline level.
